Structural reorientation and compaction of porous MoS2 coatings during wear testing

چکیده

Industrial upscaling frequently results in a different coating microstructure than the laboratory prototypes presented literature. Here, we investigate wear behavior of physical vapor deposited (PVD) MoS2 coatings: A dense, nanocrystalline coating, and porous, prismatic-textured coating. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations before after testing evidence crystallographic reorientation towards basal texture both samples. is usually desirable due to its low-friction properties. This favorable associated tribological compaction porous specimens. Following running-in, sliding under high contact pressure ultimately leads rate as small for an ideal grown bulk single crystal by chemical deposition (CVD). suggests that imperfections industrial grade coatings can be remediated suitable pretreatment.

WEAR REESISTANCE OF NANOSTRUCTURED AND CONVENTIONAL YTTRIA-STABILIZED ZIRCONIA COATINGS

Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) has been proven to be an excellent candidate as a thermal barrier coating (TBe) for hot sections in, for instance, heat or internal combustion engines and gas turbine parts. The main functions of these coatings are reducing heat losses, reducing fuel consumption, increasing efficiency, and extending durability and life. One of the main problems involved is we...

"tin Coatings for Wear Resistance and Gold-like Decorative Coatings"

Titanium Nitride (TiN) coatings have led the way for providing increased wear resistance and extended life of cutting tools, whether carbide inserts or high-speed steel. Where the earliest applications were for high temperature substrate materials (carbides) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was the process of choice, later developments in the physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology, espec...

Compaction Bands in Porous Rock

Compaction bands are localized, planar zones of compressed material that form perpendicular to the maximum compressive stress. Compaction bands have been observed in porous sandstone formations in the field and in laboratory compression tests on porous sandstone, plaster, glass beads, polycarbonate honeycombs and metal foams. Because the permeability of the compacted material is much reduced, c...

Methods of wear testing for advanced surface coatings and bulk materials

This paper examines methods of assessing the wear resistance of coated and uncoated materials. Test equipment for sliding wear, erosion, impact and dynamic wear tests is discussed. Processes for measuring wear rates are highlighted and a simple procedure for conducting wear tests to simulate industrial wear problems is given. The wear test selected and the wear conditions encountered in real ap...

Solid lubricant behavior of MoS2 and WSe2-based nanocomposite coatings

Tribological coatings made of MoS2 and WSe2 phases and their corresponding combinations with tungsten carbide (WC) were prepared by non-reactive magnetron sputtering of individual targets of similar composition. A comparative tribological analysis of these multiphase coatings was done in both ambient air (30-40% relative humidity, RH) and dry nitrogen (RH<7%) environments using the same tribome...
